Waldner Cup 2024: Teams, players, format, schedule, streaming info

Established by Swedish table tennis legend Jan-Ove Waldner, the Waldner Cup is set to be held in Oslo, Norway, from December 13 to 15. It is an invitational event, sanctioned by the Norwegian Table Tennis Association.

Here is everything you need to know about the tournament:

TEAMS

The Waldner Cup features two teams – Team Asia and Team World.

PLAYER LINEUPS

Team Asia – The team, led by Chinese table tennis great Ma Long, has Chen Meng, Jang Woo-Jin, Lim Jong-Hoon, Shin Yu-Bin, Kirill Gerassimenko and Manika Batra.

Team World – Led by Waldner, the team features Truls Moregardh, Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Hugo Calderano, Adriana Diaz and Bernadette Szocs

FORMAT

On the first day, winning a match gives a team one point. On second day, it is two points per victory. The team to reach most points wins the title.

SCHEDULE

There will be a Charity Match (from 10:30PM IST) on December 13, featuring celebrities like Henrik Elvestad, Tommy Urhaug, and Aida Dahlen playing alongside the players from the two teams.

The main event will be held on December 14-15 with the matches begin at 2PM local time (6:30PM IST) on both days.
