Barely a few hours after Patna Pirates missed out on a record fourth Pro Kabaddi League title, its head coach Narender Redhu was released by the management on Sunday. The surprising development was shared by the franchise on its social media handles.
Narender Redhu, a long-term kabaddi coach with the Indian Armed Forces, had been appointed to manage the Pirates in 2023, ahead of the 10th edition of the tournament. In his first season incharge of the Pirates, the side bowed out in the semifinal, losing to eventual champion Puneri Paltan.

Ahead of the 11th edition this year, Patna did not acquire any big names in the auction, focusing on roping in scouted talent instead. Despite carrying a squad that was underestimated early on, the side punched above its weight, comfortably making the playoffs. Patna beat U Mumba in the Eliminator and then Dabang Delhi in the semifinal to set up a final with the Haryana Steelers. In what was a close summit clash for majority of the fixture, Pirates contained the Steelers before eventually letting the title slip away.
Its star raiders, Devank Dalal and Ayan Lochab, were breakout talents this season, leading the team to one win after another. The defense also found its way to solidity. Redhu’s dismissal as coach comes as a surprise given the heartening performances by the outfit under his management.
